When faced with the task of packing up your entire life into a pile of cardboard moving boxes, it isn’t hard to get overwhelmed with the process. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be the case. We’ve got the skinny on how you can keep your life, your possessions, and your move peaceful and organized.
First, make a list of to-do’s and belongings that need careful consideration. It doesn’t hurt to write everything down. Before you even begin packing, make a simple record-keeping system for yourself. Perhaps you could even compose it on the computer and print it out for ease-of-use.
Second, don’t skimp on supplies. It almost goes without saying, but you will need a lot of boxes, probably more than you initially think. Also make sure to have extra boxes set aside for last minute items that pop up on the day of the move. Have strong packing tape on hand to ensure the boxes are secure.
Third, color-coordinate your packing. Designate a specific color for each room. For example, orange for the kitchen or blue for the dining room. On the day of the move, place a color-coordinated sticker on the door of each room in your new residence. This way movers will know where to go as they unload your possessions.
Finally, pack ahead. We all have a bit of procrastination in us, but this is not the day to let it take over. You want to be as prepared as you can be well ahead of time.
The next time you are preparing for a big move, keep these tips in mind for a stress-free and smooth move!
